Independiente: Gaudio eyes presidency as club seeks new striker

Former tennis champion Gastón Gaudio has signaled his intention to run for the presidency of Club Atlético Independiente. Gaudio stated that he is close to finalizing his candidacy, pending the recruitment of a high-level sporting director and the acquisition of significant sponsors to build a competitive team. He emphasized a desire to work with new figures rather than the established political actors who have managed the club for the past 20 years.

On the sporting front, Independiente is looking to bolster its attack following the departure of Gabriel Ávalos. The club reached an agreement with Paraguayan side Olimpia for the early termination of Ávalos's contract, a deal valued at USD 950,000 that also settles outstanding debts related to the transfer of Facundo Zabala.

To replace Ávalos, Independiente has expressed interest in Agustín Módica, the current top scorer of the Torneo Clausura with Gimnasia de Mendoza. While initial contacts have been made with Gimnasia de Mendoza to discuss the striker's situation, no formal agreement has been reached yet.
