Independiente signs Ezequiel Chimy Ávila to pre-contract

Ezequiel ‘Chimy’ Ávila has signed a pre-contract with Independiente, becoming the fifth reinforcement for the club. The 32-year-old forward, who recently left Real Betis in Spain, arrived in Argentina this Sunday to finalize the deal.

Following a period of instability for the club, including the departure of coach Gustavo Quinteros and a heavy defeat in the Copa Argentina, Independiente is undergoing a squad renewal. Ávila is expected to sign a formal two-year contract this Tuesday following a medical examination. He joins other recent arrivals including Maximiliano Meza, Santiago Mele, Imanol Machuca, and Franco Calderón.

Negotiations for Ávila were highly competitive. While Boca Juniors and Rosario Central had shown interest, Independiente secured a verbal agreement by offering a superior contract. The striker, capable of playing as a center-forward or on the wings, will join the team under new director Jadson Viera starting next Tuesday.
