India 8th Pay Commission: Projections for DA and pension increases

Projections regarding the 8th Pay Commission suggest significant changes to the salary and pension structures for Indian Central Government employees and pensioners. Based on All-India Consumer Price Index for Industrial Workers (AICPI-IW) data and existing formulas, the Dearness Allowance (DA) could potentially rise to between 66% and 67% by January 2027.

Regarding pensions, the National Council of Joint Consultative Machinery (NC-JCM) has proposed a fitment factor of 3.833, which would establish a minimum pay of Rs 69,000. Under this hypothetical scenario, an employee with a last drawn basic pay of Rs 44,900 could see a revised basic pension of approximately Rs 86,050. The NC-JCM has also proposed increasing the annual increment rate from 3% to 6%.

The 8th Pay Commission is expected to submit its formal recommendations to the government by May 2027, though these figures remain estimates and have not been officially confirmed by the Central Government.
