India: AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal urges appointment of Sonam Wangchuk as education minister
On July 16, 2026, Arvind Kejriwal, national coordinator of the Aam Aadmi Party, visited Jantar Mantar in Delhi where activist Sonam Wangchuk was undertaking a 19‑day hunger strike. Kejriwal expressed support for Wangchuk’s protest against recurring examination paper leaks and the resulting student suicides, calling the situation a crisis for the education system.
Kejriwal appealed directly to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging the removal of incumbent Education Minister Dharmendra Prasad and the appointment of Wangchuk as the union education minister. He warned that ignoring the youth movement could trigger further unrest and emphasized the need for a reform‑oriented leader to overhaul the country's schooling and assessment processes.
