India Accelerates Renewable Power Build‑out with BHEL Solar Tender and Bajel 400 kV Transmission Line

Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) has issued a tender to install a 1.5 MW grid‑connected rooftop solar plant at its Piplani facility in Bhopal. The project, valued at around ₹6 million in earnest money and a ₹4.5 million performance guarantee, will sell electricity to BHEL under a 25‑year power purchase agreement. Bidders must have previously executed at least one 500 kW rooftop solar project and meet net‑worth and turnover criteria. The plant is to be commissioned within six months of the PPA signing.

Separately, Bajel Projects, a Bajaj Group EPC firm, secured a contract to construct a 70‑km 400 kV transmission line linking the Bellary and Davanagere substations in Karnataka. The line will enable the evacuation of up to 2.75 GW of renewable power from solar and wind zones, forming part of a broader grid‑strengthening effort that also includes 0.25 GW at Davanagere. The project highlights India's ongoing push to integrate large‑scale renewable generation into the national grid.
