India accuses Pakistan of police brutality in Kashmir protests

India’s Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said Pakistan is spreading misinformation to hide its own human‑rights failings and condemned police brutality in Pakistan‑occupied Kashmir (PoK). He cited reports that at least 12 people – eight protesters and four security personnel – were killed during clashes in Rawalakot as law‑enforcement confronted members of the Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC). India urged the international community to hold Pakistan accountable and highlighted the banning of JAAC, tightened security measures and internet shutdowns across PoK.

India also raised Pakistan’s airstrikes in Afghanistan at a United Nations Security Council meeting, accusing Islamabad of causing civilian casualties and destabilising the region. The remarks came amid broader diplomatic friction between the two neighbours over human‑rights abuses and disinformation.

Local media in PoK confirmed injuries among security officials and reported protests spreading to Muzaffarabad, Mirpur, Tata Pani and Plandari, where activists blocked access routes and demanded an end to the crackdown.
