Jammu & Kashmir Receives Major Central Funding for Broadband, Power, Water and Housing Projects

The Union Government reported that 295 Gram Panchayats in Jammu & Kashmir have been upgraded under the Amended BharatNet programme, with 930 km of optical fibre laid to expand high‑speed broadband connectivity.

Rural households in the Union Territory received an average of 20 hours and 23 minutes of electricity per day in 2025‑26, below the national average. The Centre has sanctioned Rs 106.70 crore for the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme to electrify 15,361 additional households, though none have been connected yet.

Jammu & Kashmir has been allocated a central share of Rs 250 crore under the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) 2.0, of which Rs 163.73 crore has been utilised for urban water supply, sewerage and related infrastructure.

Under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana‑Urban, 35,961 houses have been completed and handed over to beneficiaries in the region, with the Centre releasing Rs 544 crore of the Rs 734 crore approved for the scheme.

Separately, SBI Life Insurance has partnered with J&K Bank to offer its full suite of life‑insurance products through more than 1,000 bank branches, aiming to broaden coverage in Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.
