India and Australia unveil Sports Collaboration Roadmap at Melbourne Cricket Ground

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese launched the India‑Australia Sports Collaboration Roadmap at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on 10 July 2026. The framework sets out joint initiatives in sports training, capacity‑building, sports science, technology, event cooperation and investment, and calls for an India‑Australia Youth Sports Festival.

The announcement also included the first foreign Big Bash League match to be played in India, with the Melbourne Renegades taking on the Perth Scorchers at Chennai's M. A. Chidambaram Stadium in December 2026, as part of a week‑long “G’Day Namaste” cultural and business festival.

The roadmap is positioned as a pillar of the bilateral strategic partnership, supporting India’s preparations for the 2030 Commonwealth Games, the bid to host the 2036 Olympic Games, and Australia’s lead‑up to the 2032 Brisbane Olympics. Both leaders highlighted how deeper sports cooperation can boost trade, tourism and people‑to‑people links between the two nations.
