India and Australia to seal uranium supply pact during PM Modi's visit

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will travel to Australia from July 8‑10 for high‑level talks in Melbourne, the final leg of a three‑nation tour that also includes Indonesia and New Zealand. Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has highlighted the growing Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two nations, noting cooperation on trade, defence, security and technology.

During the visit officials expect the two governments to finalize a long‑awaited uranium supply agreement, giving India a reliable source of nuclear fuel for its expanding civilian reactor fleet. The pact is seen as a key component of India’s low‑carbon energy strategy and a step to strengthen nuclear fuel security. Discussions are also slated to cover broader clean‑energy collaboration, critical minerals and investment ties.

The meetings will feature the India‑Australia Annual Leaders’ Summit, a CEO forum and an address by Modi to the Indian community in Melbourne, underscoring both the strategic and people‑to‑people dimensions of the partnership.
