India and Bhutan Sign Rs 4,000 Crore Credit Deal, Review Development Projects
India disbursed a second tranche of Rs 237.83 crore to Bhutan to advance 292 high‑impact community development projects covering all 205 gewogs, including water supply, irrigation, rural roads, health facilities and other infrastructure.
During the fifth India‑Bhutan Development Cooperation Talks in Thimphu, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri and his Bhutanese counterpart Dasho Pema Lektup Dorji signed a concessional line of credit worth Rs 4,000 crore (approximately Nu 40 billion) between the Export‑Import Bank of India and Bhutan’s Ministry of Finance to fund initiatives under Bhutan’s 13th Five‑Year Plan. The same meeting saw the virtual inauguration of the Thimphu Ecological Park and Olakha Park, projects under the “Green Infrastructure and Open Spaces in Thimphu” programme financed by India.
India and Bhutan also signed a memorandum of understanding for health‑education and research cooperation between the All India Institute of Medical Sciences and Bhutan’s Khesar Gyalpo University of Medical Sciences, and handed over 45 electric vehicles to support Bhutan’s green‑mobility push. India remains Bhutan’s largest development partner, providing long‑term financial and technical assistance across infrastructure, connectivity, education, health and capacity‑building sectors.
