India and Colombia Reach New Renewable Energy Milestones

India’s renewable power capacity continues to expand rapidly. As of 31 March 2026, the country had about 150.3 GW of installed solar capacity and 56.1 GW of wind capacity, bringing total non‑fossil capacity to roughly 229 GW. The government aims for 500 GW of non‑fossil generation by 2030, with projections that solar could quadruple and wind could triple over the next decade. Ongoing challenges include grid integration, transmission bottlenecks, land acquisition and financing, which the government is addressing through major transmission upgrades and hybrid‑project incentives.

In Colombia, solar power has overtaken 4.58 GW of installed capacity, of which roughly 1.19 GW is still in testing. Solar accounted for more than 98 % of renewable capacity added under the “6 GW+” programme since August 2022. The nation needs an additional 1.35 GW of solar, wind and small‑scale hydropower by August 2026 to meet its 6 GW target. Combined solar and wind capacity now stands at about 4.63 GW, representing 19.2 % of the National Interconnected System’s total capacity.
