India and Germany deepen renewable energy partnership

India and Germany marked 75 years of diplomatic relations by reaffirming their cooperation on renewable energy and energy security at the tenth edition of the Green and Sustainable Development Partnership (GSDP) Conversation Series. German Ambassador Dr Philipp Ackermann said renewables have become an economic and strategic necessity and highlighted the "trinity" of climate action, economic opportunity and energy security. Senior officials from the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, industry leaders and experts discussed ways to accelerate India's renewable transition and reduce reliance on imported fossil fuels.

India's renewable sources now supply about 26% of its electricity and non‑fossil fuels account for roughly 54% of installed capacity. The two countries pledged joint work on renewable deployment and manufacturing, battery storage, grid integration, energy efficiency, green urban mobility, climate mitigation, sustainable urban development and vocational education. India reiterated its target of 500 GW of non‑fossil capacity by 2030 and stressed that recent West Asian crises underscore the critical role of renewables for energy security and sustainable growth.
