India and Indonesia deepen ties ahead of Prime Minister Modi's July visit

India and Indonesia are intensifying their bilateral relationship through frequent leadership exchanges, ministerial visits, strategic dialogues and defence consultations over the past three years. The two countries are negotiating a possible acquisition of the BrahMos missile system, expanding naval cooperation, and discussing the development of a spaceport in Biak, Papua. Bilateral trade has approached USD 30 billion, making Indonesia one of India’s key partners in ASEAN. Both sides view each other as indispensable maritime partners and aim to shape the future of the Indo‑Pacific together with like‑minded nations. Preparations are under way for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Indonesia in July, following President Prabowo Subianto’s appearance as chief guest at India’s Republic Day celebrations last year.
