India transfers 72 health facilities and 12 heritage projects to Nepal, unveils cross‑border UPI link

On 6 June 2026 External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met Nepal’s Foreign Minister Shisir Khanal in New Delhi. During the virtual ceremony Jaishankar handed over 72 health facilities and 12 cultural‑heritage projects completed under India’s post‑2015 earthquake reconstruction assistance to Nepal. The two leaders also launched a linkage between India’s Unified Payments Interface (UPI) and Nepal’s National Payments Interface (NPI) to enable cross‑border personal remittances. A memorandum of understanding was signed between Digital India Bhashini and Kathmandu University to co‑create a ‘Voice‑First’ language‑translation platform for Nepal. Discussions covered cooperation on connectivity, trade, energy (including hydropower), digital technology, startups, AI, renewable energy and people‑to‑people ties. The meeting concluded with the completion of the India‑Nepal Mutual Legal Assistance Agreement in criminal matters, further strengthening bilateral ties.
