India and Nordic nations cement AI and green‑tech partnership at Oslo summit
The third India–Nordic Summit was held in Oslo in May 2026, bringing together India and the five Nordic countries to launch a ‘Green Technology and Innovation Strategic Partnership’. The talks focused on co‑authoring inclusive, human‑centred AI norms and expanding collaboration on climate, Arctic affairs, clean‑energy transition, trade, investment and the blue economy.
India highlighted its extensive digital public infrastructure—Aadhaar, UPI and open‑API platforms—that now underpins services for over a billion people and is being exported to other regions. Nordic leaders, noting India’s status as a “great power”, emphasized shared goals: anchoring supply chains, research and digital infrastructure in India to diversify away from China, while benefiting from Nordic expertise in data protection, civil liberties and green technology.
The partnership is positioned as a strategic alignment rather than a generic diplomatic dialogue, aiming to combine Nordic innovation with India’s large market and regulatory framework, and to influence global technology governance through joint AI and data‑protection standards.
