India and Nordic Nations Forge Green Tech and Defence Pact at Oslo Summit
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the leaders of Iceland, Finland, Denmark, Norway and Sweden met in Oslo for the third India‑Nordic summit. The participants issued a joint statement condemning recent terrorist attacks in India and pledged tighter cooperation on counter‑terrorism, terror‑financing disruption and anti‑money‑laundering standards.
The summit unveiled a new Green Technology and Innovation Strategic Partnership, aiming to boost clean energy, digital innovation, AI, 5G/6G and sustainable blue‑economy projects such as low‑carbon shipping and environmentally sound ship recycling under the Hong Kong Convention. Trade and investment ties were highlighted, with Nordic investment in India rising nearly 200 % over a decade and discussions on expanding free‑trade agreements.
Defence collaboration was also emphasised, with plans for increased defence‑industrial cooperation, foreign direct investment in India’s defence corridors and joint development of critical components and equipment. The leaders underscored the shared commitment to multilateralism, rule‑of‑law and a rules‑based global order.
