India and Pakistan Protest Human Rights Abuses in Occupied Kashmir

In Jammu, members of the displaced community from Pakistan‑occupied Kashmir staged a protest on July 31, accusing Pakistan of illegal occupation and ongoing human‑rights violations. The demonstration was led by Rajiv Chunni, who warned that innocent lives are being lost and called for greater attention to the situation in the region.

The protest in Jammu coincided with unrest in Pakistan after police action in Rawalakot on July 27. Thousands took to the streets in Islamabad, Lahore, Karachi and other cities, demanding an independent inquiry, the release of detained activists and an end to what they described as suppression of civil liberties by the Shahbaz Sharif government and the army. The rallies were organized with support from the Jammu‑Kashmir Joint Action Committee and echoed the grievances voiced by the displaced community in India.
