India and Seychelles sign 19 agreements, introduce UPI digital payments

India and the Seychelles announced 19 bilateral agreements covering defence, digital payments, health, education, space use and maritime security. A key outcome was the launch of India’s UPI‑based digital payment system in the islands.

India will provide a credit line of about ₹1,250 crore and a $175 million economic package, and gifted a fast‑patrol vessel, utility vehicles, ambulances, rice, cement and other equipment. The agreements were signed during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s three‑day visit, marking the 50th anniversary of Seychelles’ independence.

Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said any development projects in Seychelles will be aligned with the host government’s priorities and the interests of its people, emphasizing cooperation based on respect, trust and friendship.
