India and Suriname discuss strengthening bilateral relations

Indian Ambassador to Suriname, Subhash Gupta, held farewell courtesy meetings with Surinamese Foreign Minister Alva Baptiste and other senior ministers to discuss strengthening bilateral relations.

As part of the ongoing diplomatic engagement, a pedestrian safety project in Paramaribo was handed over under the Quick Impact Projects (QIP) initiative. This project was unveiled jointly by Ambassador Gupta and Suriname’s Minister of Public Works and Spatial Planning, Stephan Tsang, marking a tangible outcome during the golden jubilee year of India-Suriname relations.

This follows previous developmental support from India, including the handover of a fruit processing facility in Paramaribo in May. That facility was funded through a $1 million grant for small and medium enterprises announced by Indian External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar, aimed at supporting Suriname as a partner in the Global South.
