India and Thailand pledge deeper trade and strategic ties in Bangkok talks

On July 16 in Bangkok, Indian Ambassador Poonit Agrawal met with Thai officials including Director General Urasa Mongkolnavin, Trade Representative Chutinthorn Gongsakdi, and Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sihasak Fuangketkaeo. The discussions focused on strengthening the India‑Thailand strategic partnership by expanding bilateral trade and investment, identifying priority sectors, and removing tariff and non‑tariff barriers. Both sides also addressed people‑to‑people contact, public health, traditional medicine, cultural and religious ties, connectivity projects and broader regional cooperation.

The talks followed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s April visit to Bangkok, which elevated the relationship to a strategic partnership. Diplomatic relations between the two countries date back to 1947, with a 75‑year anniversary celebrated in 2022.
