India and United States Near Finalization of Trade Agreement
U.S. trade officials led by Ambassador Sergio Gor are scheduled to visit New Delhi from June 1‑4 to complete the remaining 1 percent of a bilateral trade agreement that is already 99 percent finalized. Both sides expect the pact to be signed within the next few weeks or months.
The deal would expand cooperation in digital commerce, advanced manufacturing, energy, artificial intelligence, quantum computing, pharmaceuticals and critical minerals. Trade between the two economies has risen from roughly $20 billion to over $220 billion in the past two decades, reflecting deepening economic ties.
U.S. officials highlighted the partnership as a strategic priority for the 21st century, while Indian authorities are cautious to protect agricultural and domestic‑producer interests as negotiations continue.
