India expands strategic defence ties with Poland, Fiji, and the US

India is actively strengthening its strategic and defence ties with multiple nations through high-level diplomatic and military engagements.

In New Delhi, the India-Poland Joint Working Group met to operationalise the 2024–2028 Joint Action Plan. Co-chaired by Sanjeev Kumar and Magdalena Sobkowiak-Czarnecka, the discussions focused on enhancing institutional, defence, and defence-industrial cooperation. This follows a September 4 meeting in Warsaw between External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Polish Deputy Prime Minister Radosław Sikorski, which covered sectors including space, AI, semiconductors, and energy.

Simultaneously, India and Fiji held their second Bilateral Joint Working Group meeting to expand maritime security, cyber capabilities, and military training cooperation. Fijian officials are scheduled to visit Kochi to inspect naval facilities for potential advanced training modules.

India also engaged with a bipartisan US Congressional delegation led by Representative Brian Mast. Discussions between Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh and US lawmakers focused on the India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership, specifically regarding defence industrial and technological cooperation. Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri also met with the delegation to discuss the Sanctioning Russia and Iran Act (SRIA) and energy security. These diplomatic efforts follow the successful completion of the Yudh Abhyas 2026 military exercise, which aimed to improve interoperability between the Indian and US armies.
