India approves Rs 1,195 crore to upgrade 25 ITIs across three states
The Indian government has approved investment plans worth Rs 1,194.92 crore to upgrade 25 Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) across Maharashtra, Odisha, and Jammu & Kashmir. These upgrades are part of the Pradhan Mantri Skilling and Employability Transformation through Upgraded ITIs (PM-SETU) scheme.
In Odisha, the Kataka ITI cluster will receive Rs 240.50 crore to modernize its facilities. This project will utilize a hub-and-spoke model, with Government ITI Kataka serving as the central hub for four other institutes: Government ITI Madhusudan, Choudwar, Paradeep, Jajpur, and Dhenkanal. The initiative focuses on upgrading infrastructure, introducing industry-aligned training, and enhancing trainer capabilities to meet evolving technological demands.
The broader PM-SETU project involves partnerships with industry players such as Tata Steel Foundation and Belrise Industries. With these latest approvals, the cumulative investment cleared under the scheme has reached Rs 3,687 crore. The program aims to improve youth employability by aligning classroom learning with the practical skills required by modern employers.
