India ITI modernization via PM-SETU scheme

Overview

Under the Pradhan Mantri Skilling and Employability Transformation through Upgraded ITIs (PM-SETU) scheme, the Indian government and private industry partners are investing in the modernization of Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) across various regions.

Initial developments included a ₹240 crore partnership between AM/NS India, the central government, and the Gujarat government to modernize five ITIs in the Surat cluster. This project involves the formation of a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) to enhance student employability through updated curricula and advanced facilities.

Subsequent approvals expanded the scope of the PM-SETU scheme, with an additional ₹1,194.92 crore allocated to upgrade 25 ITIs in Maharashtra, Odisha, and Jammu & Kashmir. In Odisha, the Kataka ITI cluster will receive ₹240.50 crore to modernize its facilities using a hub-and-spoke model, with Government ITI Kataka serving as the central hub for four other institutes: Government ITI Madhusudan, Choudwar, Paradeep, Jajpur, and Dhenkanal. This initiative focuses on upgrading infrastructure, introducing industry-aligned training, and enhancing trainer capabilities.

The broader project involves partnerships with entities such as Tata Steel Foundation and Belrise Industries. Total cumulative investment cleared under the scheme has reached ₹3,687 crore.
