India assures adequate fertilizer supplies for Kharif 2026 season

Union Minister for Chemicals and Fertilizers Jagat Prakash Nadda told Parliament that the availability of key fertilizers—urea, diammonium phosphate (DAP), muriate of potash (MOP) and NPKS—remained adequate for the ongoing Kharif 2026 season. Between April 1 and July 27, 2026, urea stock was 174.47 LMT against a pro‑rata requirement of 120.16 LMT, DAP 42.36 LMT versus 34.67 LMT, MOP 14.21 LMT versus 10.97 LMT, and NPKS 88.01 LMT versus 52.89 LMT. Closing stocks as of July 27 stood at 65.52 LMT of urea, 16.52 LMT of DAP, 8.51 LMT of MOP and 44.31 LMT of NPKS, with 21.23 LMT of indigenously produced Single Super Phosphate also available.

The government highlighted measures to ensure timely supply, including state‑wise requirement assessments, allocation through the Integrated Fertilizer Management System, advance import planning, coordination with manufacturers and importers, and rail logistics. It has also increased domestic production by commissioning six new urea plants under the New Investment Policy‑2012 and is promoting phosphatic and potassic fertilizers via the Nutrient Based Subsidy scheme.
