India Kharif 2026 fertilizer supply

In late July 2026 the Indian government reported that fertilizer availability for the Kharif season remained comfortable despite disruptions from the West Asian conflict. It highlighted supply‑diversification measures, long‑term contracts, and a monitoring system that kept stocks of urea, DAP, MOP and NPKS above required levels, while mitigating import challenges for ammonia, phosphoric acid and sulphur.

A week later, detailed inventory figures confirmed the earlier assessment: urea, DAP, MOP and NPKS stocks were well above the pro‑rata requirements, with substantial closing balances. The ministry reiterated its allocation framework, advance import planning, and rail logistics coordination, and noted the commissioning of six new urea plants and the promotion of phosphatic and potassic fertilizers under the Nutrient Based Subsidy scheme.
