India automobile sales hit record highs in August 2026

India’s automobile industry reached record wholesale levels in August 2026. According to data from the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), passenger vehicle (PV) sales grew by 36.5% year-on-year to 439,309 units. Three-wheeler wholesales rose 22.8% to 93,764 units, while two-wheeler sales increased 10.5% to 2,034,698 units.

The seven-seater segment also saw significant expansion, recording 86,703 units in August 2026, a 27.7% increase compared to August 2025. The Maruti Suzuki Ertiga remained the best-selling seven-seater in the country with 18,516 units sold, capturing a 21.4% market share.

Mahindra showed strong performance within the seven-seater category, with the Scorpio range posting 15,576 units, a 58.3% year-on-year increase. Other notable growth was seen in the XUV700 family, which grew by 72.3%. Industry officials attributed the robust growth to healthy consumer confidence, resilient rural markets, and improving financing conditions.
