India automobile sales reach record July high

India’s automobile industry achieved its strongest July sales performance on record, according to data released by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM). The growth was characterized by double-digit increases across passenger vehicles, two-wheelers, and three-wheelers.

Domestic passenger vehicle dispatches to dealers rose 34.3% year-on-year to 457,810 units. The two-wheeler segment saw a 22.6% increase, reaching 1.92 million units, driven by growth in scooters (23.7%), motorcycles (20.7%), and mopeds (48.6%). Three-wheeler dispatches climbed 33.4% to 92,560 units, with goods carrier sales specifically increasing by 40.3%.

Rajesh Menon, Director General of SIAM, noted that the industry has maintained positive momentum for several months. He expressed expectations that strong consumer sentiment will continue to support demand as the industry enters the festive season.
