Indian automakers expand SUV portfolios and connected car technology
Major automobile manufacturers in India are expanding their product portfolios and technological capabilities. Maruti Suzuki reported record annual sales of 24.22 lakh vehicles in FY 2025-26 and announced plans to introduce seven new SUVs over the next five to six years. To support this growth, the company has added 500,000 units of manufacturing capacity and is investing in biogas production to support net-zero goals.
Maruti Suzuki Chairman R. C. Bhargava projects the Indian passenger vehicle market could reach between 6.1 and 6.3 million units by FY 2030-31, noting a potential revival in the small-car segment.
Concurrently, Hyundai Motor India has surpassed 800,000 connected car sales via its Bluelink platform. The company aims to reach 1 million connected vehicles by 2027 and 2 million by 2030. Hyundai also announced that its upcoming mass-market electric SUV will feature next-generation connected technology as a standard across all variants.
Other manufacturers are also preparing for shifts in consumer preference, with several brands developing electrified seven-seater SUVs to meet increasing demand for larger, hybrid-powered vehicles.
