India Blames Pakistan for Stalling SAARC Revival as Maldives Calls for Dialogue

India’s Ministry of External Affairs said that it is clear which country is hindering the revival of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC). Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal indicated that Pakistan’s support for cross‑border terrorism has stalled regional cooperation and that goodwill from all members is required.

The remarks followed an appeal by Maldivian President Mohamed Muizzu, who urged SAARC members to resume dialogue and offered the Maldives as a mediator. Muizzu made the call during the Maldives’ 61st Independence Day celebrations, emphasizing the need for peaceful resolution of differences.

Bangladesh also voiced support for deeper cooperation within SAARC, calling for stronger implementation mechanisms and greater financial capacity for the bloc.
