India Block opposition alliance meets in Delhi, calls for education minister's resignation over exam scandal

On 8 June, the India Block opposition alliance convened in New Delhi, with roughly 23‑25 party leaders attending in person, including Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge, Akhilesh Yadav, Mamata Banerjee, Supriya Sule and Kapil Sibal. Uddhav Thackeray and Hemant Soren joined virtually. The meeting produced consensus on five key issues: a demand that the education minister resign immediately for alleged mishandling of the NEET‑CBSE paper leak, a planned letter to the Chief Justice of India, concerns over the SIR and election fairness, criticism of economic conditions such as inflation and unemployment, and a call for a unified strategy against the ruling party.

The alliance resolved to submit a letter to the Chief Justice outlining these concerns and to hold regular coordination meetings, appointing a coordinator for future activities. They also discussed preparing for the 2029 Lok Sabha elections, including the selection of a prime‑ministerial candidate to challenge the incumbent government. The next scheduled gathering will be in Hyderabad on 8 August, aiming to maintain unified opposition momentum.
