India, Brazil, and South Africa conclude ninth IBSAMAR maritime exercise
The ninth edition of the India-Brazil-South Africa Maritime Exercise (IBSAMAR IX) has concluded near Simon’s Town, South Africa. The trilateral operation involved naval units from all three nations working together from harbor to open sea to enhance interoperability and maritime security.
During the sea phase, participating vessels conducted simulations of asymmetric and aerial threats, anti-submarine warfare, boarding operations using combat divers, and surface target firing. The exercise featured the Indian Navy’s INS Tarkash, the Brazilian Navy’s corvette Barroso, and several South African vessels, including the SAS Amatola, SAS King Sekhukhune I, SAS Adamkok III, and the submarine SAS Manthatisi.
Air support was provided by a Brazilian Super Lynx 300 AH-11B helicopter, an Indian HAL Chetak, and South African Gripen fighters. The exercise aims to promote collective maritime security and preparedness in the Indian Ocean and South Atlantic regions. Following the maneuvers, the Brazilian corvette Barroso proceeded to Walvis Bay, Namibia, for transit exercises with the Namibian Navy.
