BRICS Education Ministers adopt declaration in Bhubaneswar
The 13th BRICS Education Ministers' Meeting, held in Bhubaneswar, India, concluded with the unanimous adoption of the BRICS Education Ministers' Declaration. Chaired by Indian Union Education Minister Pralhad Joshi, the summit focused on the theme "Building Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability," serving as a precursor to India's 2026 BRICS chairmanship.
The declaration established five key priority areas for member nations: strengthening early childhood care and education (ECCE); promoting skill development and technical/vocational education and training (TVET) through cooperation alliances; encouraging collaborative research, innovation, and start-up ecosystems; advancing the mutual recognition of academic qualifications to boost student mobility; and building capacity for academic leadership.
During the summit, Minister Joshi engaged in several bilateral discussions, including meetings with representatives from Iran, Indonesia, and South Africa to explore cooperation in higher education and research. The meeting also emphasized the importance of integrating traditional and indigenous knowledge systems into modern education and discussed the ethical use of Artificial Intelligence in learning environments.
