India commemorates Kargil hero Capt. Neikezhakuo Kenguruse on 27th Memorial Day

The Indian Army and Assam Rifles marked the 27th Memorial Day of Captain Neikezhakuo Kenguruse, Maha Vir Chakra (posthumous), at the Kenguruse War Memorial in Nerhe‑Phezha village, Kohima district, Nagaland. Lieutenant General Girish Kalia, General Officer Commanding the Spear Corps, served as chief guest and laid a wreath alongside the hero’s parents, Major General Harinder Singh Mavi and representatives of local communities.

The ceremony featured a documentary on Capt Kenguruse’s actions during the 1999 Kargil War, a ceremonial march‑past by Assam Rifles, Nagaland Police Mahila Pipe Band, ex‑servicemen and NCC cadets, and the inauguration of a community medical camp named after the officer. The event concluded with a felicitation of the hero’s parents and a vote of thanks delivered by his elder brother.

The tribute highlighted the continued reverence for Kenguruse’s bravery and the armed forces’ commitment to honoring its fallen soldiers while serving the local populace.
