India cracks down on illegal liquor operations in Punjab and Madhya Pradesh

In Kapurthala district of Punjab, police and excise officials uncovered a concealed underground tank beneath a bedroom floor. The concrete floor was broken open to reveal a 1,000‑litre capacity tank about eight feet below ground, from which 270 litres of illicit liquor were seized along with tullu pumps, pipelines and other equipment. One suspect was arrested while another remains at large as authorities widen the investigation.

In Gadhakota district of Madhya Pradesh, police raided a house and seized 564.78 bulk litres of illegal liquor, valued at roughly 4.04 lakh rupees. The haul included both domestic and foreign spirits. The property owner fled before officers arrived; a case has been registered under the state excise act and a manhunt is underway.
