India deepens diplomatic ties with Tanzania’s Zanzibar and Australia

President Dr. Hussein Ali Mwinyi of Zanzibar arrived in Chennai on July 17 for a state visit to India. He attended the 63rd convocation of IIT Madras’ Zanzibar campus as chief guest and met Indian Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan and Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar. The leaders reviewed the full spectrum of India‑Zanzibar (Tanzania) relations, looking at trade, investment, education, health and capacity‑building cooperation and pledged to expand future joint projects.

Australia’s High Commissioner Philip Green praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent trip to Australia, saying it yielded concrete outcomes in defence, maritime security, energy, technology, education, space and sport. The two sides signed a defence cooperation declaration, agreed on a uranium supply framework, and launched initiatives on cyber‑security, critical technologies and supply‑chain resilience. New academic partnerships and a sports‑collaboration roadmap were also announced, underscoring the widening strategic partnership between India and Australia.
