India defence production hits record Rs 1.78 lakh crore FY 2025‑26

India’s defence production reached an all‑time high of Rs 1.78 lakh crore in the 2025‑26 financial year, a 15.6% rise over the previous year and a 110% increase since FY 2020‑21. Public‑sector undertakings accounted for about 76% of the output, while the private sector’s contribution rose to 24%, its highest share ever, valued at roughly Rs 42,000 crore. The surge helped drive record defence exports of Rs 38,424 crore. Defence Minister Rajnair Singh credited the growth to sustained policy support, new initiatives, expanded private participation and the government’s self‑reliance drive under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat programme led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
