India develops new semiconductor and tech clusters

India is expanding its advanced technology landscape through the development of specialized semiconductor and tech clusters. Sarin Sundar, Chief Technology Officer of the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM), announced that new clusters are emerging in Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, and Bhubaneswar. These hubs will focus on quantum computing, photonics, and Assembly, Testing, Marking, and Packaging (ATMP) capabilities, using Taiwan’s Hsinchu ecosystem as a strategic model.

The government anticipates an outlay of approximately USD 40 billion under the Semicon India 2.0 program, though estimates may evolve as more states provide support.

In a related move to bolster the innovation pipeline, HORIBA India hosted the inaugural HORIBA Innovation Connect in New Delhi. The event showcased 15 startups specializing in sectors such as sensors, quantum technology, spectroscopy, and lab-grown diamonds for semiconductors. The initiative aims to connect emerging companies with technical expertise and potential industrial applications.
