Election Commission of India extends voter roll revision deadlines nationwide

The Election Commission of India (ECI) is conducting a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls across several states. In Uttarakhand, notices were served to senior officials, including Kumaon Commissioner Deepak Rawat and BJP MLA Sarita Arya, as Booth Level Officers (BLOs) carry out door‑to‑door verification. Maharashtra’s deadline for field verification has been pushed to 17 August, with the draft roll to be published on 24 August and the final roll on 27 October. Similar extensions apply in Delhi, where the draft roll will also appear on 24 August and the final roll on 27 October.

Awareness programmes such as the SVEEP campaign were held in Mon, Nagaland, to educate citizens about the SIR process. In Dehradun, slum residents complained that BLOs often delivered notices without explaining required documents. Jharkhand released a draft roll that omitted 4.36 million names; affected voters can apply for re‑inclusion until 4 September. The nationwide effort aims to update voter details, remove duplicates, deceased and shifted voters, and ensure accurate rolls ahead of upcoming elections.
