India electoral roll deadline extensions

Entities: Election Commission of India · Ministry of Women and Child Development · Jharkhand Chief Electoral Officer · Booth Level Officers · Delhi

Overview

In late July 2026 the Election Commission of India (ECI) extended the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) deadline in Telangana to 10 August, moving the draft roll to 17 August and the final roll to 19 October, and also lengthened the online nomination window for the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar to 15 August.

On 4 August the Commission revised the SIR timetable for Delhi, setting draft rolls for 24 August, a claim‑filing window until 23 September, and final rolls for 27 October. The same day a Special Voter Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) event was held in Mon district, Nagaland, to stress clean rolls and voter participation.

Later on 4 August the ECI announced further extensions across multiple states. In Maharashtra the field‑verification deadline was pushed to 17 August, with draft rolls on 24 August and final rolls on 27 October. Uttarakhand officials, including the Kumaon Commissioner and a BJP MLA, were served notices as Booth Level Officers conduct door‑to‑door verification. In Dehradun residents complained that BLOs often delivered notices without explaining required documents. Jharkhand’s draft roll omitted 4.36 million names; affected voters may apply for re‑inclusion until 4 September. The nationwide effort, reinforced by SVEEP activities, aims to remove duplicates, deceased and displaced voters and to ensure accurate electoral rolls ahead of the 2026 elections.
