India electric two-wheeler market sees rapid growth in 2026

The Indian electric two-wheeler market is experiencing rapid growth, with electric vehicle registrations reaching 15.61 lakh units between January and September 2026, a 62 percent increase compared to the same period in the previous year.

In the electric scooter segment, TVS Motor led September registrations with 53,990 units, followed by Bajaj Auto with 48,383 and Ather Energy with 30,477. Together with Hero MotoCorp Vida, these four companies control approximately 76 percent of the market. Electric vehicles accounted for 11.5 percent of all two-wheeler registrations in September 2026, up from 8.2 percent the previous year.

The electric motorcycle segment, while still in a nascent stage, is also expanding. Oben Electric emerged as the leading brand in this category for September 2026 with 1,417 registrations, marking its highest monthly sales to date. Revolt Motors followed in second place with 1,027 registrations. Other notable brands in the motorcycle segment include Ultraviolette Automotive, Matter India, and Raptee Energy.
