India ensures adequate fertilizer supplies for Kharif 2026 despite West Asia conflict

The Indian government reported that fertilizer availability for the Kharif 2026 season remained comfortable despite disruptions caused by the West Asian conflict. Measures such as supply diversification, collective procurement, long‑term contracts with overseas suppliers, and a robust monitoring system (iFMS) were implemented to safeguard the chain. State‑wise demand was projected by the Department of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, and monthly supply plans were issued.

Data showed that supplies of urea, DAP, MOP and NPKS exceeded the required volumes. While imports of ammonia, phosphoric acid and sulphur were affected, and potash costs rose due to logistics issues, the ministry facilitated allocations of propylene, surplus ammonia for pharmaceuticals, and improved methanol supply to mitigate shortages.
