India-EU Free Trade Agreement seen as game changer by Lithuanian Ambassador

Lithuanian Ambassador to India, Diana Mickevičienė, has described the upcoming India-European Union Free Trade Agreement (FTA) as a ‘game changer’ that will significantly boost bilateral trade.

In an interview, Mickevičienė expressed hope that the FTA will be signed by the end of this year. She noted that Lithuania will hold the Presidency of the Council of the European Union from January to June 2027, during which time there is a high possibility the agreement will be implemented and become operational. She emphasized that the deal seeks a balance between facilitating access to goods and services and protecting sensitive sectors.

The ambassador referred to the agreement as the ‘mother of all deals,’ suggesting it could serve as a blueprint for a new generation of international trade agreements. Additionally, she highlighted growing economic ties between India and Lithuania, noting an increase in the exchange of electronic products, digital devices, and components, alongside potential cooperation in artificial intelligence and new technologies.
