India EV sales reach 25 lakh units in FY26 as market expands
India's electric vehicle (EV) market has seen significant growth, with sales reaching 25 lakh units in the 2025-26 fiscal year. During an Independence Day address, Prime Minister Narendra Modi noted that this represents a more than 16-fold increase from the 1.5 lakh units sold in 2009-10.
Data from JMK Research indicates that cumulative EV sales reached nearly 86.8 lakh units by the end of FY2026. The market is heavily driven by two-wheelers and three-wheelers, which accounted for approximately 57.8% and 29% of annual sales, respectively.
In the private sector, Voltz Mobility is expanding its operations by collaborating with Japanese technology specialists. The company aims to integrate Japanese precision engineering with India's growing EV ecosystem to develop smart, sustainable, and connected mobility solutions.
