India expands medical college seats in J&K and faculty posts in Odisha
The National Medical Commission approved an additional 50 MBBS seats at Government Medical College (GMC) Rajouri in Jammu & Kashmir, raising the college's annual intake from 100 to 150 students beginning in the 2026‑27 academic year. Health and Medical Education Minister Sakina Ittoo said the increase reflects the government’s commitment to expanding medical education and improving the doctor‑patient ratio in the region.
The Odisha government sanctioned 152 new faculty positions across its state‑run medical colleges, covering super‑specialty departments such as Cardiology, Neurology, Neurosurgery, Plastic Surgery, Nephrology and others. The posts, including professors and senior residents, aim to strengthen specialist healthcare services and enhance medical education quality throughout the state.
