India Allows 10% Capacity Flexibility for Rooftop Solar, SECI Launches 5.3 MW Tender

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) issued an advisory directing all electricity distribution companies and state electricity departments to permit a tolerance of up to 10% in the installed DC capacity of rooftop solar systems over the sanctioned capacity, provided the inverter’s AC rating does not exceed the approved load. The move aims to curb delays caused by mismatches between standard solar module wattages and the sanctioned system size.

Separately, the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) released a request for selection for developers to install 5,290 kW of grid‑connected rooftop solar across eight projects. Category A projects cover Delhi, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, while Category B projects are in Jammu & Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh. Bids must be submitted by 31 August 2026 and include a non‑refundable fee, performance bank guarantees, and responsibilities for design, installation, net‑metering approvals and O&M for the contract term.
