India is rapidly expanding its semiconductor ecosystem through the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM), which has approved twelve manufacturing projects with a cumulative investment of over ₹1.64 lakh crore. Several projects, including those by Micron, Kaynes Semicon, and CG Semi, have already begun shipping products from facilities in Sanand.

In Odisha, the state has approved five semiconductor projects totaling $1.14 billion, focusing on silicon carbide manufacturing, advanced packaging, and power electronics. This expansion is supported by global industry players, such as Teradyne, which recently opened an office in Bengaluru, and the NX Group, which signed an MOU with the ISM to enhance semiconductor logistics and supply chain resilience.

Amidst this growth, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has warned the domestic industry to remain vigilant against cyberattacks and geopolitical disruptions, noting that India's emergence as a chip design and manufacturing power may be viewed as a threat by established global interests. Former G20 Sherpa Amitabh Kant emphasized that as global supply chains shift from efficiency to resilience, India must position itself as a 'trusted geography' to secure its role in the new economic order.
