India exports 1 million barrels of petrol to Russia

India has become a significant exporter of petrol to Russia, with shipments totaling approximately 1 million barrels over the last two months. This shift in energy trade comes as Russian domestic fuel production has reportedly dropped by as much as 70 percent due to a series of Ukrainian drone attacks on Russian energy infrastructure.

Data from energy analytics firm Vortexa indicates that as many as 32 attacks were carried out on Russian refineries during July and August. These strikes have caused substantial damage to processing units, leading to acute fuel shortages and forcing Russia to ban petrol and diesel exports to stabilize its domestic market.

A major portion of the Indian supply is attributed to the Vadinar refinery in Gujarat, operated by Nayara Energy, a company in which the Russian state-owned oil giant Rosneft holds a roughly 50 percent stake. Other suppliers helping Russia meet the shortfall include Turkey and Morocco.
