The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved the continuation of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM‑KISAN) scheme from the 2026‑27 financial year through 2030‑31. A total outlay of Rs 3.15 lakh crore was allocated for the five‑year extension.

Under the scheme, eligible farmer families receive Rs 6,000 per year in three equal instalments of Rs 2,000 each via Direct Benefit Transfer. Launched in February 2019, the programme has transferred more than Rs 4.47 lakh crore to farmers across 23 instalments, benefitting over 9.49 crore beneficiaries in the latest tranche with Rs 18,984 crore released. Women farmers account for about one‑quarter of recipients, receiving over Rs 1.06 lakh crore. Independent studies cited by the government indicate that 85 % of beneficiaries have reduced borrowing and 92 % used the funds for agricultural inputs.
