India food and potato industries prepare for major technological and processing expansion
India's food and beverage sector is undergoing significant expansion, with the food processing industry projected to reach a US$600 billion opportunity by 2030. This growth is driven by rising consumer demand for healthy, clean-label, and plant-based products, alongside advancements in automation and sustainable packaging.
To address these developments, two major industry events have been announced for 2026. Informa Markets in India will host the 20th edition of Fi India and the 8th edition of ProPak India in Mumbai from August 26–28, 2026. The event aims to connect over 600 exhibitors and 15,000 professionals across the food ingredients and packaging sectors.
Additionally, the second Global Potato Summit (GPS 2026) is scheduled for December 16–17, 2026, in Gandhinagar, Gujarat. As the world's second-largest potato producer, India aims to improve value chain efficiency, moving from fragmented networks toward better integration in cultivation, storage, and processing. The summit will focus on specialized varieties and technologies to meet the growing demand for processed potato products like frozen fries and chips.
